Chinese polypropylene (4/4)

Tecnimont (Italy) has won contracts to build three polypropylene plants. The new facilities, located in Daqing, Lanzhou and Dalian, will produce about 800,000 tons a year. Petrochina Co. Ltd awarded Tecnimont, the Edison Group’s engineering and construction company, three orders with a combined value of USD 60 million. Tecnimont will supply engineering services and equipment and will provide the technical services needed to commission and start up the three facilities. The plants in Daqing and Lanzhou will have an annual output of 300,000 tons of polypropylene each. An additional 200,000 tons a year will be produced by the Dalian factory. All three facilities, which will use Basell technology, are scheduled for completion in 2005. These orders are unique in the history of the Chinese petrochemical industry because of the considerable amount of polypropylene they will produce (800,000 tons) and the innovative production features that are being applied on a large scale.
