China: coal-based natural gas project

CNOOC New Energy Co. Ltd (Beijing), a subsidiary of CNOOC Ltd (Beijing), has signed an agreement at the Expo Central China 2009 conference in Hefei, Anhui province, with the government of Datong city and the Datong Coal Mine Group Co. (Shanxi province) for a USD 4.38 billion coal-based natural gas project in Shanxi.

CSVC investment approved

In the spring of 2008 Sumitomo Metal Industries Ltd (Sumitomo Metals) and China Steel Corp. jointly requested to the Government of Vietnam for approval for investment in an advanced steel sheet project (China Steel Sumikin Vietnam Joint Stock Co. [CSVC]).

China: coal-fired power projects

According to announcements made by the NDRC on 29 April 2009, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has given approval to 12 large coal-fired power projects in the past three months.
