Baosteel Zhanjiang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd expressed that they would continue to develop a continuous casting workshop and hot rolling plant as part of Steel Competitive Products Base for Baosteel. CISDI Engineering (CISDI) of MCC Group was awarded the engineering contract for the continuous casting workshop and 2250 hot rolling plant.

ArcelorMittal Liberia on target to ship 4.5Mt iron year

ArcelorMittal Liberia shipped 3Mt of iron ore between January and August 2013, almost doubling last year’s figures for the same period. The most recent monthly shipments figures for July 2013 show that production tripled last month compared with July 2012.

Vale’s Additional 40 project begins with operating plan

Global mining company, Vale, has started up the Additional 40 project, with a new dry processing plant. This plant will expand the iron ore production at the mining complex in Carajás, Pará, by 40Mt per year.

Usiminas Mecânica offshore projects

Usiminas Mecânica has signed two new contracts to supply capital goods by for important works in the oil sector. Both projects will be supporting Petrobras in the exploration of pre-salt layer. Usiminas Mecânica will assemble equipment for four FPSO platforms.

ArcelorMittal restarts steel expansion project in

ArcelorMittal will restart an expansion project at its Monlevade and Juiz de Fora sites in Brazil to increase its production capacity from 3.75Mt to 4.9Mt per year. The expansion was first announced in 2007 but paused in 2009 due to the economic crisis and weak demand.

Tata Steel to supply rail for linking two holy cit

Tata Steel will manufacture 60,000t of high-quality rail for a new high-speed line linking the two holy cities of Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia. Steel for the project will be made at Tata Steel’s Scunthorpe, UK, plant before being rolled into rail in lengths of 25m both there and at the company’s plant in Hayange, Northern France.
