Different variants for Duplex
Duplex stainless steels are designed to provide better corrosion resistance, in particular to stress corrosion and pitting corrosion. The microstructure leads to higher strength than standard austenitic stainless steels such as Type 304 or 316. Duplex stainless steels have become more and more popular in recent years. There are several variants available, such as Duplex 2205, Superduplex 2507 or lean duplex with lower nickel content.

Chusovoy Metallurgical Works, part of United Metallurgical Company, OMK CJSC, and based in the Perm Region, stopped producing steel through its open-hearth furnaces this March. Held in Cologne, Germany, on June 19 and 20, 2013, the Fourth International Separation Technology Symposium was very well received by attendees, including suppliers, equipment builders and users.
The event, organised by Schmidt + Clemens, was described as a top platform by many of the managers and engineers that Stainless Steel World spoke to.
They said the show was a great opportunity to see the latest developments in separation techniques, to network with peers, and also to see how new insights and materials could be of benefit to special applications.
To bring you a flavour of the event, the SSW TV Team interviewed two of the organisers from Schmidt + Clemens, as well as some of the speakers and attendees.

Slovenian steelmaker Acroni has commissioned a new 2.6-m X-Roll heavy-plate mill stand from SMS Innse, Italy, and a new roller-type quench supplied by Drever International, Belgium, two subsidiaries of SMS Siemag as part of modernising its heavy-plate mill.
Acroni, a company of the Slovenian Steel Group (SIJ), is a highly specialised niche supplier with a focus on plates and strips of stainless steel grades, tool steels, abrasion-resistant steels and HSLA grades.
Corrosion Resistance: Duplex stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance due to its high chromium and molybdenum content. It is particularly resistant to stress corrosion cracking and pitting, which makes it suitable for use in harsh environments.
Strength: Duplex stainless steel is much stronger than conventional austenitic stainless steels, which allows for thinner and lighter constructions without sacrificing durability.
Toughness: Duplex stainless steel has a high toughness, which means it is resistant to brittle fracture and impact. This property makes it suitable for use in cryogenic applications.
Cost-effectiveness: Although duplex stainless steel is more expensive than conventional austenitic stainless steels, its superior properties can lead to cost savings in the long run by reducing maintenance and downtime.
Versatility: Duplex stainless steel can be used in a wide range of applications, including chemical processing, oil and gas, marine, and pulp and paper industries. It is also used in construction and architecture due to its aesthetic appeal.
