Wescast to expand Stratford facility

Wescast Industries Inc will further expand the capacity of its stainless steel facility in Stratford, Ontario to more than double its previous commitment. The additional capital investment coincides with a number of production orders recently received for engine components that use the innovative manufacturing technology employed at that facility. The investment will be financed via operating cash flows.

US Steel inks deal with Lambda

US Steel Corporation’s tubular products subsidiary, US Steel Tubular Products Inc, has entered into an agreement with Surface Enhancement Technologies, part of Lambda Technologies Group, to improve the quality of its tubular steel products. As per the agreement, US Steel has received an exclusive permit by SET to use its patented low plasticity burnishing technology

Siemens receives new steel mill contract

Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received a contract from the Qatar Steel Company for the supply of process technology for a new steel mill in Mesaieed of Qatar. As per the contract, Siemens will supply melting furnaces, a continuous billet caster and a dedusting plant.

ATI Allegheny raises cost of stainless

ATI Allegheny Ludlum has increased base prices, with shipments from 1 April 2011, by approximately 6% to 9% for stainless cold rolled and hot rolled sheet and strip, tubular quality sheet and strip, continuous mill plate products, and emission control alloys. The company achieved this increase by decreasing the functional discount

Vale shareholders nominate new CEO

Vale’s controlling shareholders have nominated one of its former executive directors, Murilo Pinto de Oliveira Ferreira, as president of the company, replacing the current CEO Roger Agnelli. The nomination is subject to approval of Vale's board of directors. Murilo Ferreira joined Vale in 1998

Sandmeyer appoints two new VP’s

Sandmeyer Steel Company (Sandmeyer) has appointed John M. Curley, III, as the Vice President of International Sales and Global Marketing, a newly created position in the company. In his new role he will oversee the development of business outside of the United States, a quickly expanding market for Sandmeyer.

DuPont increases product line prices

DuPont Performance Coatings will increase prices across all of its product lines by up to 20% and more for some specific products or customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. This increase applies to all coatings, particularly Industrial Liquid, Powder Coatings and the OEM automotive business. The price increase will be implemented in April 2011.

SENER receives contracts for five projects in Spai

SENER has won several contracts for the design and supply of solar fields in Spain including the Aste 1A and Aste 1B, Termosolar Soluz Guzmán, Consol-Orellana and La Africana plants. These fields will use the SENERtrough company-patented parabolic trough collector technology, which is already in use, to great success, at several commercial plants in operation.

Kobe Steel makes organizational changes

Kobe Steel will merge Kobe Welding Wire Co Limited into the company effective 1 April 1 2011 and carry out other organizational changes in production. This comes as a result of the decrease in demand for welding products in Japan, Europe and North America and the increase in competition in the Asian market.
