Panduit has supplied new Super Heavy stainless steel cable ties and tension controlled tooling to Relay SW for installation on Royal Navy surface vessels. According to the contractor, the next-generation ties install in less than one minute – five times faster than traditional cable ties. Super Heavy ties limit the installation procedure to three steps: loop, tension and cut. The significant time saving made on each installation reduced Relay’s labour costs by enabling the contractor to redeploy its workforce to other vessels.
The need for cushion sleeve is eliminated with Super Heavy ties, as all edges are fully rounded with smooth surfaces to prevent damage to insulation on cable and adjacent bundles. Through a process known as "slip-back", the ties leave no exposed edges after cutoff, when installed with the RT1HT installation tool, to guarantee a completely safe solution. Panduit Super Heavy ties are engineered to withstand harsh environments and conditions, including temperature extremes of -80 to +538C and corrosion and chemical attack, giving them a longer life and reducing the need for expensive, periodic rework.
