Bodycote advances stainless steel technologies

Bodycote has invested in new S3P (Specialty Stainless Steel Processes) facilities.

Demand for S3P processing is growing exponentially. As part of Bodycote’s expansion program, capacity was added in London, Ohio in 2015. A new Greenfield site, located in North Carolina, is currently under construction and will open in 2016.

Stainless steel applications present specific technical challenges to the engineer. Bodycote’s S3P technologies offer solutions dedicated to the treatment of stainless steel, nickel-based and cobalt chromium alloys (including martensitic and precipitation hardened stainless steel materials) to improve resistance against surface wear such as galling, cavitation erosion and abrasive wear. Bodycote’s S3P processes are special due to anti-galling properties.

Many surface treatments, when applied to stainless steel, will negatively affect the metal’s inherent corrosion resistance. Bodycote’s S3P process imparts increased mechanical and wear properties without adversely affecting corrosion resistance, presenting engineering benefits for industries such as medical/pharmaceutical, automotive and chemical engineering.
