Bi-metallic pipes for oil and gas fields

Have you read the case study in the June issue of Stainless Steel World magazine?

Bi-metallic pipe is playing a key role in the North Sea

Well, it describes how companies from the oil and gas industry have come to rely on the stability and long life of mechanically lined pipes, such as available from BUTTING (BuBi® pipes).

The benefits of such pipes are understood to be significant when the requirements for the pipe, caused by pressure and corrosion, can be distributed between the inner and outer layers.

The case history further reveals how BUTTING manufactured 27 km of pipes for the Andrew project.

The oil and gas field of the same name is located in the North Sea around 230 km north-east of Aberdeen, and covers an area of 27 km².

The accessible reserves are to be found at a around 115 m water depth and amount to about 150 million barrels of crude oil and natural gas.
