Atwood receives drilling contract

Atwood Oceanics, Inc. has announced that one of its subsidiaries has been awarded a drilling services contract by a subsidiary of Noble Energy Inc. for a worldwide program in the Eastern Mediterranean. The contract is for the Atwood Advantage, a dynamically positioned drillship currently under construction at Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering shipyard in South Korea.
The Atwood Advantage is capable of a depth of 12,000 feet. The agreement specifies a firm duration of three years, exclusive of the mobilization period from DSME to the first drilling location.
The Atwood Advantage is scheduled to be delivered from the DSME shipyard in September 2013, after which it will mobilize for a period of approximately 80 days to its first location in the Eastern Mediterranean.

It was also recently announced that one of Atwood Oceanic’s subsidiaries has entered into a turnkey construction contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. to build a third ultra-deepwater drillship at the DSME yard in South Korea which will be named the Atwood Admiral. The Atwood Admiral is expected to be delivered by Spring of 2015. The job will inlcude two blowout preventers, project management, and drilling and handling tools and spares. Upon delivery, the Atwood Admiral will become the sixteenth mobile offshore drilling unit owned by the company.
