Atofina boosts styrene capacity

Atofina says it plans to boost capacity at its Cos-Mar styrene monomer facility at Carville, LA, a joint venture with GE Petrochemicals, from 900,000 tons/year to 1.15 million tons/year. The project includes upgrading the ethylbenzene and styrene production technologies, which will allow reductions in energy and feedstock consumption and air emissions, Atofina says. Atofina says it adjacent polystyrene plant will consume part of the new styrene capacity. Completion of the expansion is scheduled for the third quarter of 2004.
