AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution Division (T&D) has won its biggest ever contract in the Gulf region, for the construction of two high-voltage turnkey substations. The contract, worth EUR 124 million to AREVA, is with local utility Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) for the supply, installation and commissioning of two 400/132KV substations at Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) and Bukadra, Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The two substations are needed to supply the power necessary to keep up with the region’s burgeoning economic growth. The new substation at Jebel Ali is due to be completed in 24 months’ time and the Bukadra substation in 18 months’ time.
