The Wits Business School has awarded the 2011 Management Excellence Award to ArcelorMittal South Africa’s CEO, Nonkululeko Nyembezi-Heita. She received the award as a result of her outstanding management skills and contribution to the success of the companies she has led. Upon receiving the award, Nyembezi-Heita said that one of the key lessons MBA students could learn today was how to manage in turbulent times. She elaborated further by saying: “the environment in which today’s CEOs manage is extremely complex perhaps too complex. Schools like Wits equip their students with the skills my generation never had to learn: how to forecast in turbulent times, how to manage risk and most importantly how to take advantage of the free flow of thought that is inherent in the companies of today.” Now in its 29th year, The Management Excellence Awards are a Wits Business School initiative that acknowledges South Africa’s top business icon each year.
