Arcelor files patent lawsuit against Mittal

Arcelor has filed a lawsuit against Mittal Steel in the USA over alleged patent infringement, a spokesman with the Luxembourg-headquartered company told SteelWEEK. Arcelor filed the case on 9 May relating to Usibor technology, which produces ultra high-strength automotive steels. The spokesman could not say in which court Arcelor filed proceedings. A Mittal Steel spokesman would only say that they are looking into the matter, but that they do not yet have all the facts. The possible lawsuit is unlikely to upset Mittal’s upcoming unsolicited bid for Arcelor, which it is hoping to formally present to the Luxembourg company’s shareholders in the coming weeks.
