Arcelor close to unveiling China project

Arcelor is close to announcing a project in China that it hopes will help convince its shareholders that it has a global growth strategy that offers its shareholders a superior proposition to Mittal Steel. Directeur général Mr Roland Junck has told Steel Business Briefing in an exclusive interview that Arcelor has been identifying opportunities in China for more than a year and negotiating with potential partners there. He says a deal is close to being finalised, though he declined to give details. Mr Junck said Arcelor’s management is meanwhile preparing a presentation for its supervisory board on all the actions and options that it could take in response to the Mittal bid. He declined to detail these possibilities, or to say whether the company has had any negotiations with potential “white knightsâ€?.
