AMEC awarded EPCM contract

AMEC has received an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract by mining company Compañía Minera del Pacífico, a subsidiary of Chilean steel and iron ore producer Grupo CAP. The contract is for the company’s USD 574 million Cerro Negro Norte iron ore mining project near Copiapo in Chile. The company will play an important part in the development of the 27,000mt per day operation. Upon completion, the Cerro Negro Norte iron ore mine will produce 4 million mt of iron ore concentrate per year over a period of 19 years. Work on the project will commence immediately and commissioning is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2013.
