Alstom to upgrade nuclear station (7/4)

Alstom has been awarded a contract worth more than EUR 35 million by Teollisuuden Voima Oy (TVO) to upgrade the Olkiluoto nuclear power station (2 units of 870mw each) located next to the city of Rauma, Finland. This contract will consist of a complete retrofit of the two existing HP steam turbines, including not only two new HP casings but also retrofit of the two HP rotors with new blading, four moisture-separators-reheaters (MSR) and associated thermal equipment. The first delivery will take place in 2005 and the second delivery in 2006. The upgrade will allow the power station to increase its total power output and its overall thermal efficiency. The equipment will be manufactured in Alstom factories and the project will be managed by Alstom in Sweden. The Alstom scope of delivery also comprises all site activities including removal of old equipment and installation of new equipment, as well as modifications to adapt a new two-stage operation steam cycle.
