Alstom to make trains for Nanjing

The Nanjing Metro Company Ltd (China) has selected Alstom, in partnership with Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock Works, for the supply of 20 metro trains for its Phase 1, North-South Line project. The contract is valued at approximately EUR 160 million. Located 300km west of Shanghai, Nanjing is the capital of the Jiangsu province. With a population of over 5 million, it is the second largest business centre in East China, after Shanghai. Alstom is responsible for the design, engineering and production of the pre-series train and traction equipment as well as for project management and procurement. For the order, the consortium will supply 20 six-car metro trains based on technology from Alstom’s Metropolis™ product range. The first trainset will be produced in Alstom’s unit in Valenciennes, France, and all subsequent trainsets will be produced at the Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock Works in China.
