Alstom has won a second order, valued at around EUR 40 million, to supply gas turbines for phase 2 of a pipeline project in Algeria. The contract was awarded by SPIE CAPAG- SAIPEM GEIE (Groupement Europeen d’Interet Economique), a joint French/ Italian company. Alstom will supply 15 Tornado gas turbine pump drivers to a total of six pumping stations on the new OZ2 pipeline, a 86cm diameter and 800km long pipeline which will expand the capacity of the crude oil corridor between Haoud El-Hamra and the Arzew terminal on the Mediterranean coast. The Tornado gas turbines will be operated by Sonatrach TRC and manufactured at Alstom ‘s industrial gas turbine facility in Lincoln, UK. The equipment will be delivered over a six-month period, from the end of August 2003 through to February 2004. Alstom has already been contracted under phase 1 of the project to supply 15 Tornado gas turbine pump drivers for installation at 3 pumping stations on the existing OZ1 pipeline and the new OZ2 pipeline.
