AK Steel coke plant’s safety performance recognised

AK Steel announced that the company’s Middletown (OH) Works coke plant has received the Max Eward Safety Award from the American Coke and Coal Chemicals Institute (ACCCI), an industry trade organisation based in Washington, D.C. The award recognises AK Steel, along with two other ACCCI member coke facilities, for operating the safest coke-making facilities in America. All the three coke facilities operated the entire year of 2014 without any OSHA recordable injuries.

“We congratulate employees at our Middletown Works coke plant, and everyone affiliated with our fellow Max Eward award winners, for their outstanding safety results”, said James L. Wainscott, chairman, president and CEO of AK Steel. “AK Steel is honoured to be recognised by the ACCCI with this award, which is indicative of the company’s commitment to safety at all of our manufacturing operations.” The ACCCI recognition marks the 15th time in the past 18 years that an AK Steel coke plant has received the Max Eward Safety Award. The company’s Middletown Works coke plant is now an 11-time recipient of the award.

In addition to AK Steel’s Middletown Works coke plant, the company’s Rockport (IN) Works operated the entire year of 2014 without any OSHA recordable injuries.
