The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) has announced the second AIST International Steel Academy (ISA) at The Hilton Istanbul in Istanbul, Turkey, which will take place in early December of 2012. This event is a key element of AIST’s strategic plan for industry collaboration in steelmaking regions around the world.
AIST is a non-profit technical association of 15,000 members from 70 countries. Their mission is to advance the technical development, production, processing and application of iron and steel. The organization is recognized as a global leader in networking, education and sustainability programs for advancing iron and steel technology.
AIST has encouraged the dissemination and exchange of steel technology for over a hundred years through a variety of technical programs and publications.
Turkey was chosen for its rapid expansion of steel production, with the country doubling its output within the last decade, and an additional 17 per cent growth from last year alone. The AIST International Steel Academy addresses a number of key technological issues generated by the high growth of steel production in the Turkish region. Issues such as, technology selection, innovation in research and development, benchmarking current production facilities and implementation of the latest process advancements, infrastructure constraints, raw material benefication, utilization of waste materials and the availability of a technically competent workforce.
