ADIPEC 2012 promotes sustainable energy growth

Held from 11-14 November in Abu Dhabi, the 2012 ADIPEC again proved to be a superb platform for the oil and gas industries in the Middle East. Combining a leading conference as well as a major exhibition, the ADIPEC draws in supply companies and visitors from around the globe. Stainless Steel World used the occasion to talk to some of the alloy suppliers active in the region.

Duplex family offers growth potential, says David Smith
David Smith (Sales Director – Stainless Steel) answers some direct questions about Brown McFarlane’s business. The decision to add stainless steel plate material to the carbon steel offerings has worked out well, he confirms. Plate material can be cut to meet customer requirements. Grades are stocked from 304 and upwards, but Mr Smith sees the biggest growth potential in the duplex grades.
Nickel market means busy schedule for Corrotherm’s Jan Ward
Jan Ward, CEO of Corrotherm International, is currently travelling extensively, helping establish new offices and supporting clients. She sees rising demand for nickel alloys, especially in specific grades such as the Monels, 625, etc, and product forms such as seamless tubulars. Her advice to buyers is to plan ahead and put in orders for nickel alloys in good time.
SPM opens warehouse for duplex/super duplex in the Middle East
Les Buckley, Managing Director of Special Piping Materials, discusses how the company he started 25 years ago has grown into a global operation. The latest warehouse in the Middle East will provide for example duplex and super duplex items to the oil & gas and desalination sectors.
BSL supplies eleven mm thick duplex flowlines to Egypt project
World Premiere: BSL’s Stephane Daveau is proud to report that his company has supplied eleven mm thick duplex flowlines to a project in Egypt. Some 2 km of pipe was supplied, with a diameter of 12 inches. An additional 25 km of duplex pipe was supplied, also 12 inches in diameter, but with a wall thickness of 8 mm.
Carolina Roa on the market for alloy and stainless fasteners
Having worked in the oil & gas industry for many years, Carolina Roa (Global Sales Development at Alloy & Stainless Fasteners) says delivery times are constantly changing, and that it is important to respect client’s timeframes. Whilst standard grades will always be required, she notes increasing use for duplexes and other special alloys, with some intriguing regional variations. Finally, she confirms the company’s plans to develop a new production facility in the US for stainless steel bar products.

Oil industry wants “fit and forget” equipment says Nick Head
The oil industry is increasingly looking for equipment that can last 30-plus years with no significant corrosion issues, says FineTubes’ Business Development Executive Nick Head. The main alloys demanded for instrumentation tubing include 904L and 6 Moly, he adds. Finally, he comments that the change in company ownership is good news for FineTubes as well as its customers.

Vilmar’s Sales Director Jonathan Damour discusses recent deliveries to the Goliath Project in the North Sea. Parts supplied included flanges and compact flanges, in materials such as duplex, super duplex and nickel alloys.
