Abu Dhabi power and water project

Germany’s Siemens AG has signed a EUR one billion contract to build a power plant in the United Arab Emirates, its largest in the oil-rich Gulf region. The company has won the turn-key construction of the 1500mw combined-cycle plant, the first phase of a giant power plant park in Shuweihat, some 250km west of Abu Dhabi, with a total designed capacity of around 5000mw and 1.4 million cubic metres of drinking water a day. Shuweihat is Siemens’ fifth power plant in the UAE. The project, worth a total of USD 1.6 billion, also includes a large water desalination facility with a capacity of 100 million imperial gallons per day. The facility will be constructed by a consortium of Siemens AG and Fisia Italimpianti.
