ABB has signed a contract to supply an IndustrialIT solution to AvestaPolarit Stainless Oy´s steel melting shop modernisation in Tornio, Finland. The value of the contract is nearly EUR 3 million. The ABB IndustrialIT delivery provides a plant wide control platform for the melt shop number 1, covering supplementary alloy batches, electric arc furnace, AOD-converter, cooling water system, existing and new dust emission treatment, ladle furnace, and auxiliary systems. The system delivery includes work, control, process and engineering stations, process controllers, field engineering, application engineering and software, and services as testing, start-up, training and spare parts. In autumn 2004 after completion, the IndustrialIT automation system will control totally 6000 I/Os.
