AEM-technology start welding Passive Core Flooding tank

The Volgodonsk Branch of JSC “AEM-technology” (part of the machine-building division of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom – Atomenergomash) has started welding the vessels and bottoms of the Passive Core Flooding System tanks for power unit No.1 of the “Akkuyu” NPP (Turkey).

In the manufacture of the Passive Core Flooding System tanks, Atommash experts applied fully automatic welding and root removal modes. All circumferential welds were automatically welded outside and inside. Thus, the manufacturing time for the vessels was reduced by 300 standard hours. Carrying out of end welds on one item is now performed 9 days faster.

The weight of the Passive Core Flooding System tank is 77 tons, the height is 10.5 meters, and the diameter is 4.24 meters. Atommash will manufacture the Passive Core Flooding System hydraulic tanks for the Units No.1 and No.3 of the “Akkuyu” NPP under construction.

The “Akkuyu” NPP in Turkey is the world’s first project in the nuclear industry, implemented according to the BOO (build-own-operate) model. The project includes four power units with Russian VVER reactors of generation “3+” with increased safety and improved technical and economic characteristics. The capacity of each NPP power unit will be 1200 MW.
