Metalloinvest’s modernisation project in final stage

Metalloinvest has begun the modernisation of the second gas purification unit at its electric arc furnace shop at OEMK. The construction of the second gas purification unit is the final stage of a large-scale investment project to implement a new purification system for exhaust gases from steel furnaces at OEMK. The unit will allow OEMK to reduce its environmental impact, as well as increase steel production capacity.
The first part of the gas purification system was introduced at electric arc furnace shops EAF #3 and #4 in June 2013. As a result, residual dust content from exhaust gases fell by 2.5 times. This facilitated a reduction in dust emissions into the atmosphere from the two electric arc furnaces by more than 1.5 times. Dust levels in steelmaking workplaces fell by an average of 50%.

At present, builders have begun the construction of a foundation pit for the future gas-purification unit. Ground works are being carried out by specialists from Rudstroy, a Metalloinvest construction subsidiary. A tender is being held to select contractors, who will complete foundation and installation works. The new gas purification unit is planned to be launched in February 2016 at EAF #2, and in April 2016 at EAF #1.
