Oil & Gas UK welcomes Culzean project progress

Oil & Gas UK, a representative organisation for the UK offshore oil and gas industry, welcomed the progress at Maersk Oil North Sea UK’s Culzean project. Oil & Gas UK’s operations director, Oonagh Werngren, commenting on Culzean project said, “It is very good news to hear that Maersk Oil UK has achieved significant progress on the Culzean project by awarding a GBP 3B contract for front end engineering (FEED) of a new offshore platform to a UK contractor. The Culzean gas field is a prime example of the type of ultra-High Pressure High Temperature (uHPHT) project that will benefit from the new HPHT field allowance proposed by the UK Government, which will enable operators to realise the potential of other prospects with similar technical challenges.

The uHPHT field allowance will take the centre stage at Oil & Gas UK’s forthcoming breakfast briefing in June. TOTAL E&P UK, Maersk Oil North Sea UK and BG Group will be covering a range of topics at the briefing including the challenges and successes associated with uHPHT developments, the impact of the new field allowance on future production and its contribution to stimulating exploration and development in new areas.
