In 2007, VSW became the first DNV-OS-F101-standard-certified producer of pipes for submarine pipeline systems in Russia and the CIS countries. The DNV certification made the company the only domestic producer to participate in the tender and the delivery of pipes for the first and second strings of the sub-water division of the Nord Stream main pipeline. From 2008 to 2011, VSW produced and delivered over 460,000 tons of LDPs (about 500km) for the project.
Vyksa Steel Works (VSW), part of United Metallurgical Company, CJSC OMK, confirmed that the large-diameter pipes produced from its own sheets are in accordance with the specifications for the Nord Stream Extension (NEXT) project and the requirements of DNV-OS-F101 ‘Submarine Pipeline Systems’ maritime standard of the Norwegian company Det Norske Veritas.
The DNV certificate allows the company to use wide plates made from 485FD (X70) steel manufactured at the Heavy Plate Mill 5000 of VSW to produce pipes with an inner nominal diameter of 1,153mm and a wall thickness of 30.9mm and 34.6mm for the third and fourth strings of the Nord Stream pipeline.
