Metal Ravne, Ravne na Koroskem, part of the Slovenian Steel Group (SIJ), has placed an order with SMS INNSE, Italy, and SMS Mevac, Germany, for the planning, delivery and erection of a secondary metallurgical centre that will be integrated into the existing Metal Ravne plant at Ravne na Koroskem. The new facilities will comprise a ladle furnace and a 45t/60t tank degassing unit (VOD/VD).
With this new metallurgical centre, Metal Ravne will increase its steel production and achieve additional production capacity in secondary metallurgy. The steel producer is investing in this installation to extend its product range to include stainless steel. This will open up new markets for a variety of additional steel grades and increase Metal Ravne’s market share of remelted steel.
SMS will deliver a ladle furnace in line with a VD/VOD stand and install a separate deslagging stand. The plant will comprise a movable tank car and a stationary cover for the VOD as well as a stationary cover for the ladle furnace. They will be designed to treat heats with nominal weights from 45 to 60 tons. Also included in the scope of supply are the vacuum system, the temperature and sampling device, the electrical lifting system and the slewing gantry, a wire feeding machine, the electrical, instrumentation and process automation systems as well as erection, cold and hot commissioning. The secondary metallurgical centre is planned to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2015.
