Osceola kicks in USD 2M for new steel mill

The city of Osceola is the latest government entity to kick in money for the proposed Big River Steel mill to be built just south of the city. Its city council gave Mayor Dickie Kennemore permission to commit USD 2M toward the project.

The Arkansas Legislature approved a bill providing USD 125M in state financing and tax breaks to build the mill. The Mississippi County Quorum Court appropriated USD 14.5M in county economic development funds as an incentive for the Big River project.

Meanwhile, the project is expected to bring at least 525 permanent jobs and more than 200 temporary construction jobs.
