Pará-based steelmaker Sinobras’ second expansion phase will to resolve a long-standing local demand with the construction of a metal-mechanic hub in the state, stated by the Head of State Industry, Commerce and Mining department (Seicom) David Leal.
The Pará state government’s studies for the effective implementation of Pará’s metal-mechanic centre will be taken over in the next months. The successive steps will be worked out together with companies operating locally, such as Vale, according to Leal.
“While we wait for [local miner] Vale’s definitions about the Alpa and Aline steel project implementations at the metal-mechanic hub, the state government will continue with the Sinobras expansion, which will allow for the production of different types of steel and rolled products to be used by the appliances sector,” Leal said.
“However, Pará cannot wait too much. That’s why the Sinobras expansion is the long-awaited green light expected by entrepreneurs in the municipality of Marabá to start planning the metal-mechanic centre.”
Pará’s government will invest USD 98.26M to expand Sinobras, a first step in the construction of the metal-mechanic center. With the expansion, the steelmaker is expected to almost double capacity to 700,000t/y.
