SPECTRO develops new instruments

SPECTRO Analytical has developed two new instruments that add the certainty of chemical analysis to trading in precious metals. The SPECTRO xSORT and SPECTRO MIDEX are X-ray fluorescent analysers, capable of performing instant alloy identification or a total elemental analysis. The analysis is completely non-destructive, ensuring that no valuable metal is sacrificed, and acids or toxic chemicals are not involved. The SPECTRO xSORT is a portable testing laboratory that can identify and analyse precious metals in seconds. The 1.7kg, battery powered instrument is pointed at the sample and measurements are taken in a matter of seconds once the trigger is pressed. It can also be mounted on a docking station, converting it into a bench-top unit. The SPECTRO MIDEX was created specifically for accurately analyzing small objects, making it the standard tool in the laboratories of many precious metal refiners and major traders. An X-ray beam that can be collimated down to a spot size of 0.25mm is used to scan the sample, analysing the individual components of the item. Measurements of a large number of pin samples can also be taken automatically.
