Wire mill back in action

ArcelorMittal Hochfeld’s wire rod mill has been restored and SMS Meer will continue construction on the facility. The mill, which was postponed two years ago due to the global economic upset, will begin production in spring 2012 with a potential capacity of 690,000 tns/yr. The facility will contain a walking beam furnace, mill train mechanical and electrical equipment, supply systems, coil handling equipment, rolling and cooling technology, and erection and installation equipment. The walking beam furnace will have the capability to produce 120 tns/hr, for billets. The mill will allow output of wire rods ranging from 5.5 to 25 mm, with a rolling speed at the loop laying head of 120 m/sec, maximum.
