Continental Co has started a new and unique laser cutting unit. According to Mr Mikhail Galanov, Marketing Director of the company, standard laser CO2 is not used in the process. Instead it is applied fiber itterbium laser with a wave length of 1.06mm, which is more effective for cutting stainless steel. Due to this new unit, the company closes the hardest segment cutting of flat stainless steel of 8mm to 12mm thickness. The equipment treats plate of standard dimension of thickness of 12 mm and up to 20 mm. The cost of cutting with this equipment is said to be sufficiently less than hydro abrasive treatment or with CO2 laser.
