The Salem District Small Scale and Tiny Industries Association has appealed to the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and the Bharath Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) to set up an industry exclusively for the manufacturing of stainless steel wagons to the India Railways on Salem Steel Plant (SSP). As per the agreement, the SSP would supply the required quantity of stainless steel sheets/plates and BEML would manufacture prototype wagons according to the design given by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO). On approval of the prototype wagon by RDSO, the BEML would source their complete requirement of stainless steel for the bulk production from the SSP.
