Worldsteel publishes steel report

Available for purchase on the website, The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has published its second report on yield improvement in the steel industry. This study on Yield Improvement in the Steel Industry covers the complete process chain within the steel industry, from iron-making to finished products and traces the iron yields of the different steps. It provides an overview of yield in the industry, and delivers important insights and starting points to further improve performance. Improving the yield is meant to use fewer resources, require less energy and processing facility, and obtain higher revenue for the same input. The report demonstrates that the steel industry is aware of its responsibilities in resource conservation and energy use optimisation, and that it has reached a state which is sustainable and viable. The report also shows that yield is not only a measure of the technological skills and mastering of the complex process involved from raw materials to finished processes, but it further impacts the business and environmental performance.
