Fluor Corp. has announced that it has been awarded a contract by Renewable Energy Corp. (REC) Group for the engineering, procurement, construction management (EPCM), and commissioning services for a new solar panel manufacturing complex in Singapore. REC is one of the most integrated companies across the solar value chain and this new complex will produce wafers, cells and modules for its growing global market. Fluor’s contract is worth USD 420 million and its scope of work includes the utilities, infrastructure, facilities and roadways. Fluor executed conceptual and preliminary engineering from its Dublin office and will execute the project’s detailed design from its Singapore and Manila offices. Groundbreaking took place in July 2008 with production at the complex scheduled to begin in early 2010. Once the complex is complete, REC expects production of 740MW of wafers, 550MW of cells and 590MW of modules by 2012.
