USA: landfill-gas-to-LNG facility

Linde Group and Waste Management Inc. (WMI) will build a plant for the conversion of landfill gas into LNG in Livermore, California. The 50,000lpd plant will require an estimated 2.7 million cu/ft of landfill gas per day, assuming 45% methane, to produce what is equivalent to 20,000mt of LNG per year. The landfill-gas-derived LNG will be used as fuel for WMI’s 300 trash and recycling collection vehicles in California. Each vehicle will consume an average of 167ltrs of LNG per day. Linde will spearhead the detailed engineering of the plant as well as supply the gas clean-up and liquefaction equipment for the project. WMI is supplying the landfill gas and would be the primary offtaker of the LNG produced. It is slated to begin operations by 2009.
