World crude steel output

According to the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) world crude steel production for the 67 countries reporting to the IISI was 114.0 million metric tons (mmt) in October. This is a 6.6% increase on October 2006. Total world production is 1101.8mmt for the first ten months of 2007, an increase of 8.1% over the same period of 2006. World crude steel production has again broken the 1 billion ton mark in 2007, the fourth year in a row this figure has been reached. Chinese production was 42.9mmt in October, an increase of 13.5% on October 2006. Japanese production was 10.4mmt, an increase of 2.7%. Other major producers in the region are South Korea (4.3mmt, +8.5%) and India (4.6mmt, +8.8%). The major European steel producing countries in October were Germany (4.2mmt, -1.1% compared to October 2006), Italy (2.9mmt, -2.0%), Spain (1.6mmt, -1.8%), France (1.4mmt, -12.5%), and the UK (1.1mmt, -6.4%). Total EU-27 production for October was 17.6mmt, a decrease of 2.2% compared to October 2006. Production in Turkey was 2.2mmt, an increase of 6.8% compared to the same month last year. Russia produced 6.2mmt, an increase of 5.5% compared to October 2006. Production in Ukraine was 3.6mmt, an increase of 3.6%. Brazil produced 2.9mmt of crude steel, an increase of 4.4% on October 2007.
