Voith Paper has developed a new grooved stainless steel roll cover, G-Flex, suitable for any type of press rolls. This new cover already operates successfully on the world record machine PM2 at Holmen Paper, Madrid, Spain. G-Flex is a grooved stainless steel roll cover, which is produced by winding up a premanufactured profile with high tension and under high axial load on a roll shell. The result is a dimensionally stable grooved roll cover with high wear resistance. The G-Flex roll cover can be used for deflection compensating rolls, press rolls with multi-nip zone control such as NipcoF, massive press rolls or counter rolls for shoe presses such as the NipcoP roll. The use of G-Flex is not limited to press rolls of Voith Paper. It can also be used for press rolls of any other supplier. The first roll in operation was installed in April 2007 in the Tandem-NipcoFlex press section of the PM 62 at Holmen Paper in Madrid, Spain. The roll is working perfectly without any problems. Since the start-up the machine operated on extremely high speed levels setting even a world speed record for newsprint paper with 1977m/min. The line load of the press where G-Flex is used is higher than 1000kN/m.
