Possible stainless plant in India

Acerinox SA in association with Japan-based stainless company Nisshin Steel Co. is studying the possibility of building a stainless steel plant in India to tap rising demand from makers of automobiles and houses. Dr Victoriano Munoz Cava chairman & CEO of Acerinox in an interview at Kyoto in Japan revealed that it is considering stainless steel demand and energy issues as part of the study into establishing a joint venture in India. Acerinox plans to overtake the world’s no 1 stainless makers ThyssenKrupp after its capacity expansion to 3.5 million tonnes is completed by end of 2008. Acerinox has started study for a new production site in Asia other than current sites in Europe, North America and South Africa.
