China: hydroelectric power plant

Myanmar has signed a memorandum of understanding with two Chinese firms to build a hydropower plant on the Thanlwin river in the NE of the country. The agreement to build the Upper Thanlwin hydropower project was signed between Myanmar’s junta and China’s Farsighted Investment Group Co. Ltd and Gold Water Resources Co. Ltd. The 2400MW plant in northern Shan State, about 430mi north of the country’s largest commercial center Yangon, is one of several dam projects planned on the Thanlwin river. No timeline for project completion has yet been announced.
