Argentina: hydroelectric dam construction

Argentina and Paraguay have called for public international bids on Aña Acuá dam construction, a reservoir that is part of the Yacyretá hydroelectric dam. According to estimates its four year construction will start in September 2006 on the Paraná River, on the border of Argentina and Paraguay, where the dam spillway is located. Aña Cuá will have three 85 MW Kaplan turbines that will generate power with 1,500 cubic meters of water continuously providing up to 300 additional megawatts to Yacyretá´s 3,000. The project will generate 2,200GWh a year. A USD 400 million investment is estimated for Aña Cuá´s construction under the “Private Enterprise Proposalâ€? presented by Impsa, Pescarmona Metallurgical Industries.
