Sandvik targets hollow bar market

Recent expansion of the size range for Sandvik Sanmac enhanced machinability stainless steel hollow bar, has enabled Sandvik Materials Technology to compete effectively in the large diameter size area, where centrifugally cast hollow bar has traditionally held a strong market share. The new, larger diameter sizes, between 300mm outside diameter by 200mm inside diameter and 420mm by 300mm, are produced in stainless steel grades Sandvik Sanmac 304L and 316L. All are available from stock in lengths of 3.5 to 5m. In machining tests, Sandvik has proved that the manufacturing process for producing centrifugally cast hollow bar dictates that lower cutting speeds and feed rates must be used – two key factors in reducing productivity of machined components used in valves, pumps, flow meters, fittings and mechanical seals for the process industries.
