Minerals processing in Australia

Outokumpu Technology has been awarded orders for the Ravensthorpe Nickel Project in Australia. The scope of Outokumpu’s minerals processing technology includes design, supply, delivery and installation. The contracts include the largest-ever thickener order in Australia and consist of six 42m diameter counter current decantation high compression units, four 30m neutralisation high rate thickeners, three 20m beneficiation paste units and two 20m pressure acid leach paste thickeners. A further contract includes two shell supported drum scrubbers with diameters of 4m and 5m diameter respectively. The complete package of thickener technology for the Ravensthorpe Nickel Project will now be provided by Outokumpu Technology. These thickeners, along with the scrubbers, will perform an integral role in ensuring optimum performance and cost efficiency at Ravensthorpe, which will produce up to 50,000 tpa nickel and 1400 tpa cobalt in a mixed hydroxide product. The installation of the minerals processing technologies will be completed mid-2006.
