Eutectic UK has developed and patented a new spray-and-fused powder alloy for one of the toughest corrosion and wear applications available, which it claims leads to significant cost savings. Eutectic came up with the alloy after a cement manufacturer approached the company with an extreme mixed corrosion problem combined with high temperature abrasion. This new alloy, 53 606, is nickel-based but has high levels of special additives such as silicon, boron and molybdenum that give the deposit a hardness of over 600 HV, which remains at 500 deg C. The Eutalloy powder range uses a unique surface alloying and self-fluxing process that can be applied on a variety of metals. The high hardness values it achieves lead to substantial increases in both the performance and endurance of plant of equipment, which means significant cost savings.
