Australia: Queensland power plant

Queensland Gas Company (QGC) Ltd has appointed a consortium of Thiess Pty Ltd and Siemens Ltd to construct a gas fired power station in southern Queensland. QGC said it would build, own and operate the baseload power station 30 km SW of Chinchilla, which would be constructed by the consortium. It said Thiess and Siemens would commence preliminary engineering and design work for construction of the proposed 57MW power station, which would consume four Petajoules (PJ) of gas per year. The company said first electricity sales to the National Electricity Market (NEM) are expected in 2007.
