Bahrain invites power plant proposals

Bahrain is inviting proposals for the design, development, engineering, construction, ownership, operation and maintenance of its first privatised (independent) power plant (IPP). The deadline for submissions is 31 January. The proposed power plant – to be built on Muharraq island, east of the Bahraini capital Manama – is to come into operation in 2006 with a capacity of 1000 MW by 2008. Consultants for the project, which is expected to cost between USD 500 million and USD 600 million, include Britain’s Mott MacDonald and the French bank Paribas.
