The petrochemical unit of Mexico’s state oil company Pemex will launch a tender in February 2003 for two petrochemical complexes, one at Coatzacoalcos in Veracruz state, and the other at Altamira in Tamaulipas state. The Coatzacoalcos complex will produce 1–1.2 million tonnes of ethylene a year, which will be used as feedstock for polyethylene, ethylene oxide, glycols and styrene producers. The Altamira complex will use naphtha to produce 800,000 tonnes of ethylene a year, and a range of aromatics including benzene, toluene, xylene, paraxylene and butadiene.
