LNG terminal in Britain

Utility Lattice Group Plc is planning to build what would be Britain’s only operating terminal to process imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), in an effort to meet the country’s growing energy needs. The terminal would be built on an already existing LNG storage site on the River Medway in SE England and could come into operation by the end of 2004 with an estimated capacity of 12–18 million cubic metres per day, Lattice spokesman Jim Willison said. Willison declined to disclose the estimated cost for the project but said it would be below the average USD 250 million it generally costs to build a new LNG terminal from scratch. The LNG scheme was subject to local council approval as well as regulatory and planning requirements and commercial agreements.
