Florida Power proposes a plant for 2005

Florida Power, a subsidiary of Progress Energy Inc., is planning to add about 500mw of generating capacity to its Florida portfolio in November 2005. Florida Power said its plan calls for the construction of a natural gas-fired power plant at the Hines Energy Complex in Polk County, Florida. The company, however, noted it will seek proposals to identify any possible alternatives to the Hines 3 project. If selected as the most cost-effective electric power supply alternative, Florida Power said Hines 3 would join the 530mw Hines 2, which will come into service in 2003, and the 529mw Hines 1, which came on line in 1999.
